ELECTIONS While War Continues on Two Fronts in Gaza and Cairo

by RKNews last modified 2009-03-27 09:03

42 rockets (at least) fired from Gaza during the 'temporary peace' called by Israel. Again, tit for tat, the IDF tries to catch and kill those who light the fuse to fire them. Hamas leaders, meantime, have taken refuge in Cairo or other parts subteranean.

Last week a rocket hit precisely
between 2 kindergartens; a miracle prevented the death of numerous toddlers.

Three rockets struck the Eshkol region, two of them landing in open fields and the third between two kindergartens. A fourth rocket struck an open field in the Sderot Negev Regional Council area. No casualties or damage were reported in any of the strikes.

Four mortar shells struck the Eshkol region of the western Negev earlier on Sunday, as well. No injuries or damages were caused. (haaretz.com)

Over a hundred members of the rival PLO terrorist gang of Fatah were shot, beaten or executed for allegedly not supporting Hamas:

"Hamas is very nervous, because they feel that their end is nearing," a senior Fatah official said. "They have been waging a brutal campaign against Fatah members in the Gaza Strip." ...

"We will kill them all if they try to help Israel bring down our government," the official said. "We will hang Mahmoud Abbas and [former Fatah security chief] Muhammad Dahlan in the public square if they try to enter the Gaza Strip aboard Israeli tanks." ...

Meanwhile, sources close to Hamas revealed over the weekend that the movement had "executed" more than 35 Palestinians who were suspected of collaborating with Israel and were being held in various Hamas security installations.

Hamas: In addition to the theft and sale for profit of over 80 trucks of aid brought in daily from Israel during the war, Hamas activists have now twice emptied warehouses of hundreds of tons of UNRWA and UN Aid  intended for citizens in Gaza.

The seizure of 200 tons of supplies, included flour and other staples, took place on Thursday night. In response, UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency) officials informed the IDF's Gaza Coordination and Liaison Administration that it was suspending the deliveries until further notice.

The transfer of 40 truckloads of humanitarian supplies - some 800 tons - planned for Sunday has already been canceled...

It was the second time this past week that Hamas stole UN supplies meant for impoverished Gazans.

NOTE: Within 24 hrs of the cancellation of ALL aid delivery by the UN,
Hamas surrendered the stolen tons of aid and the deliveries will resume.  Perhaps the Arabs at the UN know how to play hard ball with each other when necessary.  If they really wanted, they could stop Hamas themselves  just the same way in a day.

The failure to do so is clear proof of their duplicity (but no one will notice).

And so..... ISRAELI ELECTIONS:

Israel faces a choice between the far left (unlikely coalition members according to the latest polls), the far right (more likely to be coalition members), and the 3 largest centrist parties who will need the right or left to form a ruling coalition.  The Polls indicate that between Labor (Barak), Kadima (Livni) and Likud (Netanyahu),  Likud has a narrow lead over Kadima, followed by upstart Israel Beitenu (Lieberman) and  Labor.

Each of them will need the smaller parties to form the coalition:

  • Shas (ultra-Orthodox)
  • National Union (Zionist, no compromise on the Land of Israel, rightist)
  • Jewish Home (Zionist, no compromise on the Land of Israel, rightist)
  • United Torah Judaism (ultra-Orthodox)

Labor and Kadima are both for trading Judea, Samaria and East Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount for 'peace'  (by PA/Hamas interpretation).

Israel Beitenu's slogan is "no citizenship without loyalty" aimed mostly at Arab Israelis (whose Knesset representative's have visited Syria and sometimes even called for Israel's destruction!). He has stated willingness to divide Jerusalem.

At least 15% of the electorate is undecided 2 days before the vote.  And, meanwhile, Hamas keeps firing missiles to exert its own influence, hoping for more Israeli instability.

The Likud is trying hard to convince voters they won't give away more of Israel. They turned over most of Hebron and Bethlehem in a previous government. Leiberman meantime is turning out to be the kingmaker if not the king.

Israel may be at a turning point no less critical than the US is now and, just as we see with the current US crisis, the direction Israel takes will have a worldwide impact .

Renewed Worldwide Anti-semitism?  Hamas continues its usual behavior, firing missiles, 'tentatively' agreeing to either a short- or long-term ceasefire, stealing aid, and killing anyone who doesn't support them in Gaza. Meanwhile, anti-Israel and anti-Semitic riots increase in number and violence in western countries, specifically in Europe, South America, and Africa among others. These especially target the young people at Universities worldwide.

A British reporter wrote in the Spectator....

I am hearing ever more alarming accounts of the deepening attrition against British Jews in the wake of the incitement against Israel provoked by the war in Gaza. In addition to the record number of attacks upon Jewish individuals and institutions and murderous incitement displayed on the anti-Israel demonstrations and riots as reported by the Community Security Trust, Jewish parents report that their children – some as young as eight – are now running a gauntlet of attack from their Muslim classmates at school who accuse them of ‘killing Palestinian children’. Comments by adults about ‘Jews controlling all the money/the media/the BBC’ (yes, really! All because it allowed Israel’s spokesman to put the case for Israel from time to time) are now commonplace in both private and public discourse. Today’s Jewish Chronicle reports that a 12 year-old Birmingham schoolgirl was terrorized by a mob of 20 youths chanting ‘Kill all Jews’ and ‘Death to Jews’ on her way home from school last week.
